Last Tuesday, Carrefour, the biggest French retail chain, denied rumours concerning the sale of its Italian unit.
"Italy is not a subject matter and we deny rumours," said a company's spokesperson.
This comment was made after the Italian newspaper 'Il Messaggero' published that Conad was interested in buying Carrefour Italia, though without citing sources.
After the rumour spread, Carrefour shares rose by 2%, and though they then fell back again, they maintained a 0.15% margin when the company denied the news.
In the meantime, Carrefour Italia announced the appointment of Giuseppe Brambilla di Civesio, managing director, as chairman of the Board of Directors and of Eric Uzan as executive director.
After 13 years as head of the Italian division, Giuseppe Brambilla di Civesio will become the chairman of Carrefour Italia to support and promote the interests of the group in the institutional field.
