UK: BBC banana ban

The BBC is reported to have banned the consumption of bananas at their new headquarters. The move came as a result of a request from a journalist who suffers from an allergic reaction to the fruit, who said contact with a banana could be fatal for her.

Posters have been put up warning colleagues not to eat them at work.

It means staff are forbidden from peeling or consuming the fruit anywhere near others. A BBC spokesman said: "The posters were put up for a colleague who has a strong medical sensitivity."

The posters show a banana with a cross though it.

A source said: “Some people think the poster is a bit of a laugh, but there are serious consequences.”
