Between 2003 and 2011, exports grew by 14.7%

Argentina (Mendoza): Garlic is the main export product

According to the results of a study made by ProMendoza, food products are leading the export matrix. To a lesser extent it is followed by manufacturing products of industrial origin. The main markets are the U.S., Brazil and Chile. ProMendoza conducted a study on provincial exports for the 2003-2011 period and the result was that in nine years it grew 14.7%.

The reason for this result is that the export matrix of the province is led by food products (agricultural manufactured goods and commodities) with a 68% stake and to a lesser extent industrial manufactures, about 17%, according to figures from 2011.

The findings of the analysis were presented at the annual meeting of Cuyo´s Observatories Network and it was announced that Mendoza exports more than USD 1,650 million annually.

ProMendoza indicated that in the last 9 years, a conversion of the composition of exports has been seen: of basic or semi-processed products with higher added value and maintaining the concentration of manufactured goods of agricultural
origins in wine products.

Meanwhile, garlic is the main export product among commodities, as it constitutes 70% of the total. However, its participation is lower in 2011 compared to 2003.

Another conclusion of the study is the increase in the number of markets reached: 120 destinations in 2003 to 152 in 2011. The top three export markets of Mendoza are the same as in 2011 and those of nine years ago: the United States, Brazil and Chile.

However, a change in destination is observed. While in 2003 it was European countries, specifically the UK and France. For 2011 were Venezuela and Canada who are in fourth and fifth place in the ranking of export destinations of the province.
