Deputy Erik Juarez Blanquet said, because there is no regulation in Michoacan on some organic products, it is urgent that the State Congress approves the bill that was passed on the subject. He noted that this would strengthen the production and facilitate the exports of these products from Michoacan to markets in the European Union, the U.S. and Japan.
The president of the Rural Development Committee in the Legislature LXXII of Michoacan, Erik Juarez, said the state of Chiapas was the first entity in the country that legislated organic production, despite the fact that Mexico has signed trade agreements with the United States, Canada and the European Union. These countries count with legislations which require to have regulations equivalent to theirs to support exports, yet Mexico is still behind, so Michoacán should not wait to do what is needed.
For this reason he said, "last Thursday I presented an initiative in this matter, in order for the Local Congress to pass the law to regulate this type of production in the state."
Erik Juarez, a member of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Revolution Party, said that through this bill he aims to strengthen the production of organic products. He recalled that currently, Mexico ranks third worldwide, regarding the number of farmers engaged in organic production with 128,862 participants. While in the state more than 120 small and medium enterprises are engaged in the production and distribution of organic inputs from natural resources.
In that sense, he said, there are 38 certified packages for avocado, mango and blackberry mainly in Uruapan, Tacámbaro, San Juan Nuevo, Tancítaro, Peribán, Múgica and Los Reyes, where strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, mango and guava nectar, guava and passion fruit mix, guacamole among other products are processed.
He also stated that there are 36 avocado certified packages for every 50 containers that are exported each week. 15 are organic fruit, 700 mango hectares are certified, the fruit will go to the United States and Canada.
"Michoacan has enormous potential for the export of organic products. Currently is one of the major organic producers in Mexico, with major technology inputs, marketing, and counselor training in food programs."
With the bill filed in the matter, he reiterated that it will support Michoacan exports of avocado, strawberry, blackberry, vegetables, herbs, mango, honey and others. Besides helping this activity in the state to increase its export potential.
