NZ: Trevelyan's celebrates sustainability award
Members of the SBN since 2009, Trevelyan’s commitment to sustainability incorporates sustainable procurement, minimizing waste and monitoring carbon emissions, as well as supporting the community.
Trevelyan’s have reduced their waste to landfill by 85% since 2009 through a comprehensive recycling program. They have had a 45% reduction in carbon emissions between 2010 and 2011 through careful management of resources. Trevelyan’s have continued to focus on their staff and community through activities like staff wellness days and grower field days.
Alister Hawkey of Trevelyan’s says that "sustainability is an enduring way of doing business. It’s more than just recycling and managing our environmental footprint. It’s about treating our people and our customers fairly and looking out for our community. It’s about performing with excellence and driving innovation for a profitable and sustainable future."
Trevelyan’s say that all of these things have contributed to profitability and innovation, evident in industry leading OGR’s, currently forecast at $4.62 for Hayward conventional against the industry at $3.99 per tray equivalent.
The sustainable business network awards evening was a prestigious event attended by leading businesses, including mayors from across the Bay of Plenty. Trevelyan’s, along with the other regional winners will compete in their categories for a place in the NZI National Sustainable Business Network Awards on Thursday, November 22 at The Cloud in Auckland.
