Canada: Broadview Produce paying close attention to mango safety

Broadview Produce Company say that food safety is a top priority for them. Caillan Dietrich, Vice President of the company, says, "We work continuously each year investing precious time and capital to ensure that the highest care is maintained in the procurement, transportation and proper distribution of our products to ensure traceability if ever a needed for a recall. Broadview Produce has been working with several food safety consultants not only here in Canada but at products origin to ensure adherence to the policies in our program."

(GFTC) Guelph Food Safety Technology Center has granted Broadview Produce Company Inc. Gold Standard the highest level for (GDCP) Good Distribution Center Practices. Caillan says the company are extremely proud to receive Gold Standard level.

"It makes it well worth the time and efforts applied from all departments in our team. Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) have all been implemented in our companies manual to insure we are providing great tasting, nutritious but most important of all safe to consume."

"All of our produce conforms to international standards and is grown and packed under the supervision of our management and such agencies as US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). To ensure product is safe before exporting random samples are taken from each load to have Microbiological testing performed. Once received at destination more testing is performed at random to ensure no cross contamination has taken place."

Since the latest unfortunate salmonella outbreak from the "Daniella" brand the company have had all mango loads tested even though their mangoes are grown and packed in a different region.

Caillan says, "I understand that one of the hardest things to accomplish in this business is peoples trust but I hope that one day this unfortunate incident will be put behind us and we can all enjoy this sweet nutritious treat that mother nature has provided."
