Planasa is present in almost every market that produces asparagus. Europe, as a pioneer area of production, was always a reference for this company that, with almost 40 years of experience in asparagus selection, knows quite well what is demanded by every different market. It commercializes some 10 million asparagus plants, white and green, going from North to South of Europe.
Asparagus genetics specialists at Planasa work in two different production lines: one for warm and Mediterranean climates and an other for more cold and continental climates. These last years they have been focusing on obtaining "super male" varieties to achieve more homogenous and productive varieties. It was with this ambitious project that Darzilla was born. The variety is getting good results in several countries.
Varieties valued day by day in Germany
The company has a cultivation area of 45 hectares in Le Barp (next to the French city of Bordeaux), where technicians from all over Europe come to observe the development of this variety program. They are said to be impressed with Darlise, a variety of white asparagus that is a favourite for many Alsace farmers and in the Rhine basin, due to its precociousness and quality. Also white, the Darbella, is the variety which best adapts to more cold climates.
For green asparagus, Placosesp is the leader and continues to increase its market quota, as it's also a very precocious and productive variety, advancing its production in 15 to 20 days with more than 15-20% volume regarding other varieties like Grande.
Asparagus varieties from Planasa are valued in Germany and, to favour its commerce, has a nursery in Lampertheim, South from the Hesse state. It's a Steinmetz nursery, where every variety can be found which are perfectly adapted to the requirements of the German market, next to the German varieties.
