Italy: Aureli Mario explores new uses for its vegetables and renews its website

For years, the Italian company Aureli Mario has devoted itself to creativity and innovation to give an added value to 'apparently' poor crops, such as carrots and vegetables. Besides a chromatic segmentation of carrots with the last introduction being the black one, Aureli is going to diversify into of the use of vegetables.

Interviewed by FreshPlaza, Alessandro Aureli, marketing and sales manager, explains: "In a difficult economical time, we defended ourselves thanks to the enlargement of our product range and, above all, the usage of our products. Besides the retail channel and food service, now we are also offering vegetable extracts, purée and flours destined for the processing sector."

Natural dyes and sweeteners
In a food industry that is becoming more sensitive to the composition of foods, due to the consumer's need for more natural products, Aureli company presents itself as a strategic partner for the supply of natural raw materials, such as dyes, sweeteners and ingredients for bakery products.

"Artificial colourings have been studied from EFSA because of some undesired effects on children health, especially E104, E110 and E124 are now limited and have to be declared on labels. Concentrates from vegetables are valid alternatives: to law they are just ingredients not dyes. Furthermore they have high levels of nutritionals as polyphenols, carotenoids and mineral salts." Alessandro Aureli underlines.

As for sweeteners, Alessandro adds: "Natural sweeteners are usually healthier than artificial ones; if derived from vegetables, they both represent a low calorie choice and a supplement of fiber and mineral salts. Sugar beet even contains betaine, which has positive effects on circulatory system, allergies and cell respiration."

Vegetable flours and purée for bakery products
Carrot powder, combined with wheat powder (20% carrot powder, 80% wheat powder) is a perfect ingredient for bread, breadsticks and crackers. Furthermore carrot powder is gluten free, then high suitable for preparing baked food for celiacs.

Further, Aureli offers purée of courgette, pumpkin or carrot as ingredients for sauces, while other vegetables such as celery, beetroot, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes and carrots are used to product juices, integrators or even in cocktails.

"During Fruit Logistica 2012 our aim is to present all these new products. It is a wide range in order to increase the value of our vegetable crops" Alessandro says.

New website and IFS certification
Since December 2011, the company Aureli Mario has had a new website, updated and enriched with new contents: www.aurelimario.com.

In December 2011 the company got also the IFS-International food standard certification, with the highest score!

Aureli Mario will be at FRUIT LOGISTICA 2012 in Berlin, Hall 4.2 / Stand D-13.
