Crop Care looks to extend label use of insecticide

Crop Care regulatory affairs manager, Bronwyn Vorpagel, said that, with the support of Horticulture Innovation Australia (HIA), it is seeking to extend the label of Astral 250EC, their insecticide.

“Astral 250EC is currently registered for use against a broad range of insect pests, mites and whitefly in many Australian broad-acre field crops, tree-fruit crops, bananas, vegetable crops and sugarcane,” Ms Vorpagel said.

“Crop Care has recently submitted an application to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicine Authority to add many new vegetable crops to the label – green beans and peas, brassicas, lettuce, peppers, eggplant and cucumbers (grown in protected situations) – plus oilseed mustard and pineapples. All of the proposed new uses are currently allowed under permit.”

She said the submission included proposed registration for the important pineapple pest symphylid, and an alternative insecticide for silverleaf whitefly.

According to Ms Vorpagel, symphylids have been identified as a high-priority pest by the commercial pineapple industry, and by Horticulture Innovation Australia and Growcom.
