Crimson King potato meeting good demand in US

Crown Quality Concept's King Stratton has the exclusive marketing rights to the Colorado State University bred Crimson King which has seen rising popularity according to King Stratton.

“I have received many samples, but I selected this one because I thought it is so interesting in the color pigmentation. I thought it might have a market — and surely it does."

"We can’t keep up with the demand originating in the marketplace. We’re excited about it. I’m happy to be able to work with the University. I supported the plank patenting process on it and in turn they gave me the exclusive license agreement to market it."

"We’re on our third year of production and we double each year. Although it is a very, very small segment of the total industry. It is perhaps the fastest growing variety within the chip industry because of the unique color and its ability to hold its color during the fry process and it tastes good too,” Stratton said.

According to Stratton demand is growing for the product and some producers took advantage of its novelty red color and marketed Fourth of July themed chips.
