UK willing to buy all Dominican green-skinned avocados

The Dominican ambassador in London, Federico Cuello, has stated that traders and entrepreneurs in the UK have announced their willingness to buy the Dominican Republic's entire production of green-skinned avocados.

During a meeting with avocado growers from Cambita Garabito, a rural community in the southern province of San Cristóbal, it was said that this creole product is in great demand among British consumers.

The meeting was organised by the director of the National Sugar Institute (INAZUCAR), Antonio López, who travelled to London and made contacts to allow the sale of the Dominican product there.

The announcement was welcomed by local producers, who immediately showed their willingness to export to the UK and to expand beyond the US market, which is their main trading partner.

Cambita's producers started the process to capture the British market during a meeting with ambassador Cuello, the director of INAZUCAR and the co-founder of the Dominican Chamber of Commerce in London, Rolfi Chevalier.

In Cambita Garabito, extensive plantations that used to be devoted to the cultivation of coffee have in recent times been planted with avocados.
