Ecuadorian banana producers want to stop using diesel
Eduardo Ledesma, the head of Ecuador's Banana Exporters Association (AEBE) said that the banana sector was interested in replacing its use of diesel with electricity in its productive activities.
He stated this after the AEBE had a directory session meeting with the Minister of Foreign Trade, Juan Carlos Cassinelli, in which the official encouraged the change of energy source to harness the energy generated in the hydroelectric plants.
"It is important to know the criteria regarding changing the energy matrix," said Cassinelli, who was open to discuss the ideas that the banana sector had concerning the change of energy supply.
The minister and the deputy minister of the Ministry of State, Humberto Jimenez, were awarded with a distinction by the exporter's guild for their work to allow the entry into force of the Multiparty Trade Agreement with the European Union (EU) from January 1.
