Del Monte using pineapple waste for renewable energy

In a partnership between Del Monte Philippines (DMPI) and Global Water Engineering (GWE) the companies plan on making better use of pineapple wastage. The plan is to take the waste from Del Monte's production and use it to create renewable energy.

GWE has installed a wastewater treatment plant in order to accomplish this which is located at the Cagayan de Oro Pineapple canning factory, which they report creates enough energy to power two 1.4 MW generators. Jean-Pierre Ombregt, CEO of GWE is optimistic about the project and how it can help DMPI move towards more green energy.

"The DMPI plant has exceeded its high environmental goals by treating more than 13,000 cubic meters a day of wastewater, or nearly five million cubic meters a year,"Ombregt said.
