Lucien de Wit, Luba Fresh: “India sending good quality and large volumes”

“Looking for the right price on the grape market”

There currently is plenty of grapes on the European market. “The later varieties are being harvested in South Africa. All in all, more grapes from South Africa were sent this way than was expected. Especially because red seedless grapes did not meet Far Eastern standards, more was sent to Europe,” says Lucien de Wit from Luba Fresh. “There are also grapes on the market from Chile, but I personally do not have programmes with those.”

“We are currently receiving the first containers from India. The relation between price and quality is good, but a lot of grapes are en route. We will not soon have a shortage of grapes,” the importer expects. “Prices of white seedless grapes from India are at a level around 9-9.50 euro. That is not extremely high, but it is good for sales. As is often the case in the grape trade, we really have to look for the right price.”
