Rush Farms Portugal expands production to mitigate against adverse weather

Rush Farms Portugal emerged from the strengthening of relationships with Portuguese producers and with the determination to maintain a connection with production.

In Portugal, the operation began with the growing of sweet potatoes and have now expanded the range of products to pumpkins (Butternut, Muscat and Hokkaido), brassicas and mini-watermelons.

Considering that in recent years climate change has had an adverse effect on the availability of horticultural products, Rush Farms Portugal has diversified into a number of different geographical areas, thus ensuring that they can supply key products all year round, even when periods of drought or adverse weather occur.

Organic production is growing in butternut squash, sweet potatoes and cabbage. They say their production was able to meet the needs of customers when neighbouring country’s situations prevented their own export. Portuguese production has now rooted itself in the mind’s of their clients as a viable alternative.

Their packaging capacity helps them to meet the demands of clients, whether supermarkets, industry or wholesalers, both in the United Kingdom and in Central and Northern Europe. The company has dedicated and modernized facilities and are able to pack 300 tonnes of each item per week (cabbages, pumpkins and sweet potatoes). This has helped them meet their commitments and in a timely fashion.
