Göttingen organic grower and direct marketer Michael Boyer

"This year we sold three tons of tomatoes we produced ourselves"

Organic farmer Michael Boyer produces organic vegetables at three locations in and around Göttingen, most of which he markets in his own specialty store in Göttingen's Ostviertel district. The first year with the market garden proved to be surprisingly difficult, Boyer sums up. Many customers could hardly believe that he was actually selling his own vegetables. He then recorded an immense increase of 46 percent from 2010 to 2011. His own tomatoes are a big seller. "This year we have already sold three tons," he tells the Göttinger Tageblatt.

To be able to sell his vegetables even better, Michael Boyer has acquired a market stall. He has found "very good partners" in the Göttingen organic wholesaler Naturkost Elkershausen, the wholemeal bakery Backhaus (Klein Lengden) and around 40 regional producers. It is a constant "give and take".
