The dry garlic season in Egypt has started and it’s looking hopeful. The dry garlic can compensate for the lower demand that was seen during the fresh garlic season, says Gehan ElSheref, executive manager of Egyptian fresh produce exporter Agro Best:
“When it comes to the volumes of dry garlic in Egypt, this year seems to have similar volumes to last year. It could be just the slightest bit lower, but there will be no noteworthy difference for either importers or exporters. Earlier in the year, during the Egyptian fresh garlic season, the demand was lower than we would normally expect it to be. Therefore we’re thankful that this season of dry garlic seems to compensate for the lower demand earlier in the year. The demand for Egyptian dry garlic looks to be just as stable as it was last year.”
Although the focus of Agro Best is on the European countries this season, the exporter will branch out to markets in South America as well as Asian markets. “As a company, we export mostly to European markets at the moment. However, starting from next week, we’ll send dry garlic shipments to Brazil, and we’re not stopping there. We’re currently making plans to enter the Taiwanese market with our dry garlic as well. Hopefully the overall demand will continue to increase in the following days and weeks, and it would be great if that trend keeps on going right until the end of our season,” El Sheref concludes.
