Celery is no longer trusted by Chelsea supporters, vegetable banned from Stamford Bridge

Chelsea chiefs banned celery from Stamford Bridge in 2007. This means the vegetable is strictly forbidden at Stamford Bridge. Even though it contains relatively little vitamin C, the plant has been popular among blues fans since the 1980s.

Mickey Greenaway, a famous Chelsea supporter, allegedly sang the song Ask Old Brown to Tea at a game. You should 'invite Grandpa Brown and the whole gang over for tea'. If he doesn’t show up, 'we’ll use a piece of celery to tickle his behind'.

Fans of the Chelsea team, however, made some changes that gave the song a sassy, cheeky feel. After singing, celery would be thrown around the historic Shed terraces as a symbol of good luck.

However, Chelsea was eventually forced to take action after rowdy fans declared celery to be a fan favorite on the terraces. Why was it outlawed in the first place? The reason being that it was previously lobbed onto the field and, on rare occasions, at opposing players by fans who smuggled it into the stadium.

When mаsses of the vegetаble were thrown onto the field during the 2007 Leаgue Cup finаl аgаinst Arsenаl, the referee wаs forced to stop the gаme. Since the ban, anyone cаught entering Stаmford Bridge with celery in their possession will be turned аwаy, аnd those cаught throwing the vegetаble will be bаnned for life.
