Prices for carrots rose sharply in Ukraine

Ukrainian producers have started increasing prices for carrots at the beginning of this week, EastFruit project analysts report. The market participants explain the rapid rise in carrot prices with the seasonal reduction in the supply of carrots, especially high-quality ones, as well as the increased demand from local wholesalers and retail chains.

Most Ukrainian producers currently do not sell carrots cheaper than 25-35 UAH/kg ($0.68-0.96/kg), which is 25% more expensive on average than at the end of the last week.

According to market participants, the rise in prices is due to a rather high demand for high-quality carrots in the face of limited supply. Wholesale companies and retail chains are actively purchasing them, while stocks of carrots in the storages of farms are rapidly declining. Many farmers have already sold carrots from storage, and most large farms sell carrots only under agreements concluded earlier.

To date, carrots in Ukraine already cost on average 2.8 times more than at the beginning of March 2022. At the same time, Ukrainian farmers are confident that the upward price trend in the segment will continue. In the hope of this, some owners of high-quality carrots have decided to suspend the sales waiting for a further price rise.
