Russia: Growers significantly increased cultivation of "borscht set" vegetables

Increasing the production of vegetables and potatoes is one of the main tasks in ensuring food security in Russia. According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, this year, farmers have significantly increased the cultivation of products of the "borscht set", while the average yield in the country has increased by 5%.

This means that 7,2 million tons of potatoes have been harvested in agricultural enterprises and peasant farms, up 9,1% compared to last year. More than 5,2 million tons of vegetables were harvested against 5,1 million tons a year earlier (+2%). In particular, the harvest of cabbage amounted to 953,100 tons (+19,3%), table beet - 416,600 tons (+9,3%), carrots - 841,300 tons (+9,5, 1,1%), onions - 8,3 million tons.

For the development of vegetable growing in Russia, a set of support measures is being implemented, in particular, a mechanism for concessional lending, subsidies, and compensation for part of the direct costs of producers. Special attention is paid to stimulating projects to create a storage infrastructure.
