The wildly fluctuating Dutch weather is affecting broccoli cultivation. "Part of Limburg flooded, but in North Holland, they're irrigating. That's how extreme the differences are. We had a lot of precipitation, but it was gone overnight," says broccoli grower Peter Verschuren, who's affiliated with The Greenery. "The recent years' heatwaves have affected everyone. Each grower's situation is different now."
"The unpredictable weather has affected the broccoli's quality too. Until the middle of last week, the quality was quite problematic. The limited supply has stabilized prices somewhat in recent weeks. But we needed those prices due to the lost crops and quality issues."
"The limited quality is also creating a decent demand for broccoli. Germany's weather conditions will further impact the market. I think the lower supply will hike prices even more. But, as always, it remains a matter of conjecture," concludes Peter.
