Good moment for mushrooms

The market is responding well and there is demand from wholesalers, so the season seems positive for most producer companies. Giampaolo Evangelisti from Fungo Cesena stresses that "wholesale markets are responding well and demand is lively. Prices are practically the same as they always are, as mushrooms never fluctuate a lot."

The winter months are the best when it comes to production - substrates reach companies at the right temperature, which facilitates cultivation. Quality is high, with a constant production thanks to standardized processes.

"Sales are sustained, also because winter is the peak season when it comes to consumption. Demand is good between fall and spring, we only registered a drop in March and April 2020 due to the pandemic, as consumers preferred fruits and vegetables with a longer shelf-life. Now the situation has improved considerably, at least for us."

Button mushrooms are the most popular, but demand for king trumpet and oyster mushrooms is also on the up. "Button mushroom are the leading product and quality is very high. Current temperatures are excellent for both cultivation and consumption."
