According to analysts of the EastFruit project, this week's supply of greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine has fallen dramatically, and the main reason for this has been the steady hot sunny weather. Moreover, due to the cool weather in early summer, the start of the country's tomato harvest has been somewhat delayed. Thus, the volume of greenhouse tomatoes currently available in the Ukrainian market is extremely limited, while the demand in this segment remains high, allowing Ukrainian producers to set higher prices for these products.
At the moment, industrial tomatoes are reaching prices of 28-30 UAH / kg ($ 1.07-1.14 / kg), which is on average 26% more expensive than at the end of the previous working week. Tomatoes from film greenhouses are currently being sold for 23-25 UAH / kg ($ 0.88-0.95 / kg), which is on average 1.5 times more expensive than a week earlier. At the same time, traders say that despite the higher prices, the pace of sales remains quite high.
It is also worth noting that the tomatoes from film greenhouses currently being marketed in Ukraine are almost 2 times more expensive than in the same period last year. Meanwhile, the price of greenhouse products is on average 1.7 times higher than a year ago.
