Lower Austrian onion and carrot market week 40/2018

Slight price increases on onion market, carrot market quite stable

The Austrian onion harvest is now done. The onion market seems to be quite stable. This excellent current supply is complemented by a steady domestic demand. Ongoing food retail promotions are providing greater impetus. The development on the export markets remains encouraging.

The interest in domestic goods remains lively and so finally there was the possibility of slight price increases. Above all, large-size goods are in demand. Producer prices are stable at the level of last week. For onions, cleaned and sorted in the box, between 28 and 32 euros/100kg is being paid.

Carrot market unchanged
The Lower Austrian Carrot Market is essentially the same as last week. Harvest volumes will continue to match current needs. People are still waiting a bit longer before starting to store them, because in many places the soil temperatures are still too high. Producer prices are stable at the level of previous weeks.
