Carrot harvest 2023 drops by 3 percent compared to the previous year

In Saxony-Anhalt, a total of 55,547 tons of open-field carrots were harvested in 2023. This information was shared by the Statistical Office in light of Carrot Day on April 4th. The cultivation took place over an area of 836 hectares. This area is roughly equivalent to the size of the municipality of Wimmelburg (856 hectares) in the Mansfeld-Südharz district.

Compared to 2022, the harvest volume decreased by nearly 3 percent, and it was also
below the average yield of the previous six years (62,034 tons). However, the yield per hectare increased compared to the previous year from 602.6 dt/ha to 664.6 dt/ha, surpassing the average level of the years 2017 to 2022 (609.5 dt/ha).
