Bimi® Gastro Trip brings the farm closer to the culinary world

Murcia is a leader in the production and export of Bimi® in the European Union and the United Kingdom

The Murcian agricultural sector has taken part in a new edition of the Bimi® Gastro Trip, a unique experience where chefs, influencers and the media have gone on a journey from seed to fork, with stops at the nursery, the field and the kitchen. The guests of honor were the renowned chef Pablo Suárez (@poesiadefogon) and cook Juan Sanches (@pausayplato), both with over 1 million followers on social media; the gastronomic expert Sergio M. Crovetto (@muysibarita), and event organizer and influencer Silvia Moreno (@cenasadivina).

"The entire production process of Bimi® stalks needs to be made visible, all the people and processes involved in the chain, so that consumers can appreciate the value of the vegetable on their plate," says Alberto Alapont, Bimi®'s manager in southern Europe.

From the headquarters of the Sacoje Cooperative in the municipality of Lorca, the guests set off to the nursery, where they witnessed firsthand the delicate germination of the Bimi® seed. They later also observed the handling of the vegetable in the field, with processes like applying ice to the Bimi® immediately after the harvest. "It's very interesting to see how delicately each stalk is harvested. It is done by hand and meeting some excellent quality standards," says Sergio M. Crovetto. "I find it an exquisite product even raw, when it has only just been harvested," says Silvia Moreno.

The next stop on the itinerary was the warehouse where the product is prepared to allow it to reach the consumer in the best possible conditions. "Murcian producers are highly professional; we're seeing it first hand, watching how they handle the Bimi® so that it can be brought freshly harvested to all of Europe, delivering an incredibly high quality," says Juan Sanches.

The last stop was a tasting of various dishes with Bimi® as the main ingredient. "As a chef, my favorite option, the one that delivers the most flavor, is grilled Bimi®, quickly cooked with olive oil and salt. It's a perfect companion for meats, fish or pasta," says chef Pablo Suárez.

Spain, a leader in Bimi® production and export
Bimi® is increasingly present in the shopping baskets of European consumers, with consumption growing by approximately 30% in the last year. Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark are the top three consumers. We are talking about a vegetable that seeks to meet consumer needs, offering innovation, a great taste and ease and quickness in cooking. "Currently, Spain is a leader in Bimi® production, with over 1,300 hectares. 30% of the Bimi® consumed in the UK and more than 85% of the one consumed in Europe is produced in Spain. Bimi® is growing in strategic markets such as France, Switzerland and Germany, and has recently been introduced in Poland, Belgium and Italy," says Alberto Alapont, Bimi® brand manager for Spain, Portugal, and Italy.
