Fruit World, Argentina:

"Europe has high demand for pears due to low stocks in the market"

The Argentinian pear and apple producer and exporter, Fruit World, is seeing good demand for pears due to low stocks in European markets who are asking for different varieties. According to Santiago Lyons, the Sales Manager of Fruit World: "This year production volumes are similar to last season, with a superb esthetical aspect regarding a very clean, nice and firm fruit. Early signals from the markets are showing interest in William´s, Beurre D´Anjou and Packham´s pears. We are expecting a great 2024 season, with Europe in high demand due to low stocks in the market."

Fruit World exports 15 000 tons across the globe, with 30% of their current volume that is sent to Asia and the Middle East, 24% to Europe, 40% to Latam and 6% to North America. "We are interested in developing North America and the Asian markets even further. We are open to meet new partners worldwide that share our core values of offering their customers only the best quality products," states Lyons.

The company grows different pear varieties that include William’s/Bartlett variety, which is the most demanded variety says Lyons: "It is the one that has a 'true' pear taste, with the harvest that started in January. On the other hand, Packham’s Triumph is a generally large variety with a green skin that is harvested in February. The Beurre D´Anjou variety is a traditional French pear with green skin, with the harvest that starts at the end of January/early February. The Red Bartlett variety is a mutation of the William’s, but with a red skin that turns very bright when mature, with harvesting starting at the end of January/early February.

"Fruit World, along with our world famous brands Don Elias and Los Andes, is today a boutique company based in the high valley of Rio Negro, Patagonia, Argentina, run by its third generation owner Damian Zetone. Each year customers from around the globe hurry to secure programs with Fruit World in order to guarantee their supply of the best pears in Argentina," says Lyons."We strive with passion in offering the best quality fresh pears from Argentina. Our company owns the entire end-to-end production process, meaning the fruit is produced and grown in our own local orchards, own packing house, cold stores and logistics to the different ports for export. Owning the entire production process, in-house, allows us to ensure the best quality of our products, while we have full control over them. We continuously work to improve our know-how, conservation processes and certifications with the aim to improve our client´s experience," states Lyons.

Fruit World also offers the apple varieties of Royal Gala, Red Delicious, Cripps Pink and Granny Smith. Their current production is mainly composed of pears (80%) and apples (20%), which are exported to multiple destinations across the world. "All this fruit is sold through our brands Don Elias and Los Andes. Don Elias is the name of one of the pioneers in the production of pears in Argentina, Don Elias Zetone, who passionately dedicated his life to the development of this noble fruit in the country. Los Andes is in tribute to our proximity to the Andes Mountains, an area with unique climatic and agronomic conditions not found anywhere else in the world,” explains Lyons.
