Unseasonal snowfall in Uttarakhand brings relief to apple growers

Uttarakhand, India has been experiencing unexpected snowfall and rain, adding to the region's chill, as reported by the meteorological department. The temperature is expected to drop by 4-5 degrees Celsius due to the ongoing weather conditions.

This change in weather brings an end to a lengthy dry spell that was threatening the apple crop in the upper Himalayan region.

Snowfall in the higher regions of the state and periodic showers in the lower areas continued in several districts on Thursday. Notable locations such as Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Valley of Flowers, Nanda Devi national park, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri shrines, and Chakrata in Dehradun district are all blanketed with snow.

The meteorological department had issued a yellow alert for heavy rain, snowfall, and thunderstorms in isolated hill areas of Uttarakhand for a 24-hour period starting Wednesday evening. An active western disturbance is likely to affect Uttarakhand from January 31 to February 1, according to weather predictions.
