Nelna Agri Development Private Limited, a key player in Sri Lanka's agriculture sector, is aiming for a big mango harvest of 1 million kilograms during the 2023/2024 season (November to April). Of this, 300,000 to 400,000 kilograms are earmarked for export to countries like the United States, France, Sweden, Singapore, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, and the Maldives. This initiative is anticipated to contribute significantly to Sri Lanka's foreign exchange revenue, with the Maldives and the Middle East currently being primary markets for Nelna mangoes.
Cultivating mangoes on over 750 acres in the Ratnapura and Monaragala Districts, Nelna Agri Development has become Sri Lanka's largest mango planter. Emphasizing taste and quality through eco-friendly methods, the company has positively impacted dry zone communities, providing employment for over 400 individuals.
Certified with Global Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and adhering to international quality standards, Nelna Agri Development strives to make mangoes a major export crop. Using modern techniques to maximize yield, the company's mangoes are in high demand locally and internationally, reflecting the product's superior quality. Directress Punya Nanayakkara highlighted the company's commitment to expanding beyond traditional exports, planning to introduce various mango by-products during the upcoming festive season.
