Collaboration between C-Led and Azienda ortofrutticola Francescon:

How the right lighting has a positive effect on plant growth

The right light at the right time: that is how to obtain excellent plantlets. Over the past few months, Azienda ortofrutticola Francescon completed the setting up of new greenhouses, some of which feature C-Led lights. The purpose is to produce melon and watermelon plants, as these fruits represent the company's core business.

Raffaello Montanari (C Led) and Roberto Bernardelli (az. Francescon)

"We set up the lights in the greenhouses destined for the growth stage. Plantlets need to grow after sowing, and light is essential during this phase, especially in the late winter months. We are not a nursery that produces to sell, we only self-produce between February and Mary," explains technical consultant Roberto Bernardelli.

The photoperiod is still short in February and March, and the light, which is calibrated for the needs of melons and watermelons, helps favor growth. "I have noticed that plants under artificial light grow better; they have no problem lengthening internodes, and they are more uniform when they are transplanted in the fields."

Plants that are robust and well-formed result in a good harvest. Uniformity helps guarantee the respect of weekly plans. This is an essential aspect for Francescon, considering that it is one of the leading Italian companies when it comes to melon quality and volumes. "We keep plants under artificial light for around ten days. We could do it for longer, but this is what is made possible by our production rhythm in relation to the lit surface. The data are already confirming excellent results."

"We are very proud of the cooperation with Francescon, as it is a company that cares about innovation that looks to the future and boasts a leading position on the market," stresses Raffaello Montanari from C-Led."

"Thanks to a specific spectrum characterized by wavelengths that stimulate photosynthesis, we obtain compact and structured plants with a well-developed root apparatus. All this favors the general quality of plants, reducing consumption, as lamps are very efficient."
