The EU Organic Awards is an initiative supported by the EU as part of its Action Plan for Organic Agriculture. It aims at recognizing and rewarding the work of producers and sector operators who have stood out for having introduced sustainable and innovative techniques.

The award features various categories, each dedicated to a specific aspect. These include innovation for those who have introduced new techniques, processes or products, promoting efficiency and sustainability; a sustainable soil management improving fertility and preserving biodiversity; projects that promote the preservation and enhancement of biodiversity in agricultural environments; initiatives that encourage social inclusion and cooperation in organic production; and a significant impact at a social, economic or environmental level through sustainable practices.

The increase in organic production significantly contributes to the reduction of chemical fertilizers, crop protection products and antimicrobial products and has a positive effect on the climate, the environment, biodiversity and the well-being of animals. That is why organic production has been identified as having a pivotal role for the achievement of European Green Deal objectives, from the Farm to Fork strategy to that for biodiversity. For this reason, the Commission has defined an objective of 25% of EU agricultural land to be destined to organic cultivation by 2030, plus a significant increase of organic aquaculture.

Roberto Giadone is an ambassador of Sicily in Italy and Europe thanks to his passion and dedication for responsible agriculture that respects the environment. The award is promoted by COPA-COGECA and IFOAM Organics and the winner will be published on September 25th 2023. The qualification at the finals is already a great recognition for the nominees.
