Kenya to host 1st national mango conference in Makueni

The are of Makueni in Kenya will host 1st national mango conference in May, 2023 the local mayor Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has said.

In a speech in Wote, Mutula stated, "The first Mango Conference in Kenya, bringing all mango producers, sellers, investors, and all the value chains, would be held here in Makueni in May this year."

According to him, the Conference, which will draw investors, would give the County an opportunity to display and offer its fruit in both domestic and foreign markets.

Since Makueni is Kenya's top mango-producing region, Mutula continued, "we expect to export our mangoes to the international market so that our farmers earn good prices."

Mangoes are grown and sold by at least 109,465 locals through cooperatives, while some inhabitants also sell their produce directly to vendors.

The statement follows a meeting between the County Boss and Benjamin, Director of Horticultural Crops for the Agriculture and Food Authority.
