Punjab officials fear hoarding of vegetables amid export possibilities to Pakistan

With the hope of a resumption of vegetable exports to Pakistan in the near future, Some people in Punjab are fearing there will be hoarding of vegetables by some wholesalers, not only to make an extra buck but also to manipulate the market rates.

Various business chambers of Pakistan have demanded allowing vegetables import from India due to short supply and sky-rocketing prices in Pakistan due to recent floods. While not ruling out the possibility of vegetables hoarding by some traders, president of the Federation of Karyana and Dry Fruit Commercial Association Anil Mehra said: “No doubt the export of vegetables to Pakistan will be in the larger interest of not only Pakistani people but also for the Indians especially those engaged in the trade but we have to keep an eye on hoarders too to keep the prices under control."
