The TSI Italia roadshow continues, promoting the distribution of its tomato varieties all over Italy. The catalog is in fact suitable for various soil and weather conditions provided that the instructions of the TSI Italia team are followed, which also interacts with the big retail chains and the other essential links of the table tomato chain.
The most suitable varieties for northern Italy were presented in Veneto on July 21st, 2022. The event was held in the greenhouse of azienda agricola Accordi Renato & Figli, where the the latest news were shared and guests could exchange information as regards the main characteristics of the varieties.
These included "oblong" varieties, which are highly tolerant to blossom-end rot. In addition to having a nice shape, this segment also boasts a high average weight between 130 and 160 grams. We are talking about Mr Green, which also has high yields and a large number of top quality fruits.
Mr. Green
Mr. Green, selected for spring-summer transplants in Sicily where it needs to withstand the Tomato Yellow LeafCurl Virus (TYLCV), adapts well to the soil and weather conditions in northern Italy also thanks to its resistance to the Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV).
Reef
Another variety that was presented was Reef (ex CDB1703) beefsteak tomatoes. Yields are high due to the considerable weight of the fruits (250-280 g) and homogeneous grades. Last but not least, this variety boasts an appealing deep great color during veraison that turns uniform red when ripe, which means it is much appreciated by both producers and final consumers. It is best transplanted in summer (greenhouses and open fields) and, thanks to the resistance to TSWV, it is grown in all areas that require such genetic characteristic.
Salmeron
Finally, Salmeron is a very appealing salad tomato with a high productivity. Fruits stand out due to their lovely green color, marked crown and uniform grades (280-300 grams). The shape is round and slightly flattened, and flavor is excellent.
