Fedefruta: "We find it incredibly valuable that resources are allocated to help producers"

Chile declares agricultural emergency due to water deficit in four regions

The Federation of Fruit Producers of Chile (Fedefruta) has highly valued the Ministry of Agriculture's recent declaration of agricultural emergency due to the water deficit in four regions, as it will support farmers affected by the severe drought.

"It is tremendously valuable that resources are allocated to help the producers in the regions of Coquimbo, Valparaiso, O'Higgins, and Maule, that have been affected the most by this drought, which is in its most critical moment," stated the President of Fedefruta, Jorge Valenzuela Trebilcock.

“The declaration of agricultural emergency is a necessary and urgent aid for farmers, and we hope that it will soon be extended to other areas. We accompany and support the Ministry of Agriculture in all these measures.”

“We consider the announcement made by Minister Maria Emilia Undurraga is very important because it will help many, but it is key to point out that if we want to ensure food and water consumption, as well as the country's electricity supply from now on, we urgently need to make public policies and investment in water infrastructure, a strategic water plan to respond to all the country's needs,” he added.

"In that sense, we are waiting for the water plan that President Sebastian Piñera will present soon, as he pointed out last Friday in Ñuble."
