The president of the Association of Banana Growers of Magdalena, La Guajira, and Cesar (Asbama), Jose Francisco Zuñiga Cotes, confirmed that the sector had exported 408,369 tons (20,418,457 boxes) of bananas in the first half of the year, i.e. 8% more than in the same period of the previous year.
In a radio interview, Zuñiga Cotes assured that the Port of Santa Marta exported the largest amount of fruit in the region, with 397,751 tons (approximately 19.9 million boxes).
In fact, the participation of the port of Santa Marta increased by 3.69% over the same period of 2020, a year in which 36.79% of the banana exported by the country was shipped through this port.
