Last month, Catalytic Generators expanded its collection of ethylene ripeners by launching a new type called Auto-Ripe® Generator 2021. “We recognized the need for wall-mounted, vertical storage of ripening concentrate as well as ethylene production with a generator to better fit in tightly packed ripening rooms,” says Greg Akins, President and CEO of Catalytic Generators. At only 5.6 inches/14.2 cm depth, the new Auto-Ripe is an ideal solution for narrow ripening rooms. “This slim design gives ripeners peace of mind as forklifts and other mechanical equipment enter and exit ripening rooms,” added Akins.
In addition to the generator being suitable for narrow ripening rooms, another benefit is the ethylene output being adjustable for multiple room sizes, meaning the Auto-Ripe can adapt to any ethylene PPM requirement. Auto Ripe® Generators hold enough Ethy-Gen® II Ripening Concentrate to perform up to four ripening cycles, in a one or two load ripening room. When the reservoir of ripening concentrate reaches below 250 ml (0.26 qt.), bright low-level indication lights turn on. “This allows our customers to easily see when each ethylene generator needs to be refilled, no matter if they are located at the front or back of a room.”
The vertical design of this new generator is capable of holding four liters of Ethy-Gen® II Ripening Concentrate. While most customers like the ability to pour in four liters of ripening concentrate, some desire a smaller reservoir to hold just enough concentrate for one ripening cycle. “Given that the needs of each customer are unique, we now offer a choice between two reservoir sizes; 2.5 and 1.0 liter.”

Different generator models
The new Auto-Ripe generator is wall-mounted and vertically stores ripening concentrate which makes it ideal for narrow ripening rooms. “This generator is also convenient in large-scale ripening facilities that need an ethylene generator in each room,” commented Akins. The previous version of the Auto-Ripe 2021 Generator is the original Auto-Ripe Generator. This model also holds 4 liters of ripening concentrate but has a horizontal design. This was a solution for ripeners that needed a wall-mounted ethylene generator small enough in depth to be avoided by forklifts and other warehouse machinery. The previous version does not have the low-level indication lights or versatile tank capacity that the 2021 version has. For ripeners that would like a portable option for ethylene application, Catalytic’s flagship model is the Easy-Ripe® Ethylene Generator. “Most ripeners like the portability and small size of this model as they can move it from one ripening room to the next.” All models comply with TÜV safety standards.
