The MGE & Mr Quality Indian grape brands have introduced a quality label “100% sustainably grown” for taking the lead in sustainability in the wake of COVID-19, explores a very different world to the one we looked at a year ago.
Mr Shaik collected the Consumer Insights after COVID-19 and summarized. The pandemic, an unprecedented event affecting communities worldwide, has disrupted the status quo, accelerated trends and created a new landscape of consumer concerns and needs, redefining the ground rules for the industry and creating new paradigms.
1. Concern for the environment/Sustainability remains very strong
The environment still rates ahead of every concern except COVID-19, with two-thirds of consumers believing that we’re heading for disaster unless we change our habits quickly towards sustainability. Two-thirds say pandemic lock- downs brought environmental improvements they would like to see maintained, suggesting an appetite for change and “build back better” initiatives.
2. Transparency and trust are more important than ever
Manufacturers are seen as responsible for food safety – but trust in them is low. Transparency is key, with almost three in five consumers saying they want to know all they can about product production. Provenance is among the top purchase drivers.
3. Food safety has quickly moved up the list of consumer priorities.
It is now seen as a major issue for society by more than two-thirds of respondents. Consumers believe that improving food security is not only the responsibility of manufacturers, it needs to be their first priority. “Even in the midst of a global health crisis, consumer concern over environmental disasters continues to be high, confirming the understanding that these issues are blurringly intertwined. Data show that people understand the challenges in front of them and the urgency of taking action, and that the transition to safe, sustainable food systems presents opportunities for both their health and for planetary health.”
Mr Shaik said that, the MGE policy to get information and action immediately works towards the sustainability of the planet: "In pursuit of a better tomorrow, we continue to take our responsibility for climate action seriously and be first always. Our track record shows, that MGE was the first RFA grapes certified producer from India and now further moving swiftly to handle the above Global Consumer challenges and expectations as responsible stewards. A sustainable model towards sustainable business for delivering products that enhance and sustain the world’s food, natural and social environments.”
Three year ago, the MGE was the first company to get certified Rainforest Alliance Grapes towards sustainability. In doing so, the company committed itself to the goal of offering only in keeping with the sustainability standards. The MGE has already taken a major step towards achieving that goal, and now offers numerous products produced from 100% percent sustainably grown fruit. In order to provide consumers more helpful guidance in this context, MGE has also introduced the “100% sustainably grown” quality seal. MGE is the first brand to display the sustainability label. Over the course of the next few months, the seal will begin to appear on the packaging units of other products of MGE & Mr Quality brand.
MGE producers practice sustainable cultivation in keeping with relevant environmental, social and economic standards and their operations meet the requirements for the bronze level in the Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA as per Sustainable Agriculture Initiative) and MGE present evidence of a FSA comparable certification. “Our declared goal is the systematic optimization of our delivery chain, we have progressed during the past few months to the point at which the majority of the Fresh Grapes have now completed the FSA successfully.” Thus, we produce our entire product range from 100% sustainably grown and introduced the “100% sustainably grown” quality seal.
“With our engagement within the framework of the sustainability we, as the leading Indian fruit Supplier, aim to make a visible contribution to ensuring that conventional fruit cultivation and processing become significantly more sustainable world-wide.” Mr Shaik said that, the many of leading retailers are in discussion with MGE to implement our “100% Sustainably Grown” seal on grapes punnets , MGE & Mr Quality brands are already started labelling the seal on punnets for EU markets as value added product in shelves.
