Polar White

Premium white potato variety highlighted this winter

EarthFresh has launched a new winter promotion highlighting its premium white potato variety--the Polar White. "This stunning white potato with an excellent taste profile is a growing favorite throughout the US," says Shilo Sammy, director of customer insights at EarthFresh.

“White potatoes are up 10 percent across the US and the Northeast remains the dominant region accounting for 50 percent of all white potato sales nationally,” Sammy added. “East Coast consumers consistently purchase white potatoes as they have always grown well in the East, and people have became accustomed to cooking with white potatoes and recipes and habits are passed down from generation to generation. Now, this white variety is taking off everywhere. It's an opportunity for retailers to attract the loyal white potato consumer by featuring this premium quality white potato.”

Part of EarthFresh’s Potatoes of the World program, The Polar White was discovered in New Brunswick, Canada. Known for its bright, white skin color, the Polar White is now available year-round and grows well in Florida, Washington, California, Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba. It contains vitamin C, potassium, fiber and vitamin B6.

“As more and more meals are being prepared at home during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, consumers continue seeking variety with an emphasis on boosting health. White potatoes are an option that deliver on adding healthy variety to everyday meal plans,” says Sammy.

The past few years, taste and appearance have become more important to consumers. Yellows and Whites are picking up market share. The Polar White has become the fastest growing white potato in North America because it tastes so good, and looks “snow white” even after months of storage.
