Mireille Gaspard, l'As du Ventoux:

“The high demand for cherries is in line with production”

The nice weather has made it possible to have cherries available throughout France. “All regions are in full production, but this is not a problem on the market,” explains Mireille Gaspard of l’As du Ventoux. “There is a good demand and the cherries are sold easily.” In order to meet the production, various promotional actions have been implemented in the stores. “This helped accelerate the sales. For now, everything is going very well.”

Restaurants
Mireille thinks that the reopening of restaurants will greatly influence trade. “It will be felt among wholesalers in particular. Many restaurants usually get their supply from them. Of course, they were not buying during the lockdown. I think that, by the end of the week, their demand should increase.”

Late cherries
L’As du Ventoux is in mid-season for firm flesh late cherries. The beginning of the campaign was quiet. “Last month was complicated in terms of quality. The cherries did not keep well because of the previous rains. However, the quality is improving. We are reaching a period where it has not rained and the cherries are keeping well. Volumes are also getting more significant. Now, there is no quality problem anymore. We are starting to sell more significant volumes to retailers and wholesalers.”

Mireille is very satisfied with the quality of the cherries. “We have nice calibers, such as the 26, 28 and 30. The color is also very uniform.” Prices are good for the nice cherries and continue to increase.
