Chilean cherries launched on Tmall for Singles' Day

Cherries from Chile are to be launched in Tmall for “November 11 Singles’ Day”. The peak export season of Chilean cherries to China each year lasts from November to February of the following year. On November 6, 2019, an exclusive ceremony of Chilean Cherries being launched on Tmall was held at the Chilean National Pavilion under the framework of Shanghai International Import Expo. During the event, a representative from Tmall announced that the platform and the Chilean industry would continue to cooperate and Tmall would once again become an important sales platform for Chilean cherries.

Since signing the first cooperation agreement with Alibaba in 2012, the Chilean industry has been working with Tmall for many years. In order to further drive the sales growth of Chilean cherries in China, Tmall has expanded the markets to more cities in China considering the strong consumption growth in the third- and lower-tired cities.

It is reported that the first cherries to arrive are of the Brooks variety and mainly of grade JJ (28 to 30 mm in diameter) and grade J (26 to 28 mm in diameter), which are glossy, firm, and excellent-quality fruit.

In addition, Tmall and growers of branded products will jointly create a 500-gram small package to meet the growing individualized needs of Chinese consumers. In view of the growing demand in the Chinese market, the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) and the Chilean Cherry Committee will once again launch large-scale promotional campaigns this quarter.
