Urbico (Urban Bike Couriers) cyclists cover a striking number of km every year, saving over 100 thousand km to trucks. The company also delivers fresh produce and is ideal for city centers and tourist areas where a lower number of trucks is ideal.
"This year, we have a new special solution, purchased in Sweden. Deliveries with pedal and pedal-assist vehicles are normal in northern Europe, while we are the pioneers in Italy," explains manager Tobia Marta.
The new vehicle
The new solution is a cargo-bike manufactured by Velove. It is comfortable for operators and can carry large loads. The 250 Watt pedal-assist motor makes it suitable to be considered a bicycle for all intents and purposes.
"At the moment, we deliver in the Marche region (Pesaro and Fano) and the Rimini province. In Romagna, Ortoservice benefits from our services."
Via an app, an Urbico manager organizes all the various stops. Other elements to consider are delivery times, e.g. if a client needs something urgently, and the produce weight. One vehicle can load 120 kg per trip, driver excluded.
"City centers, even medium-sized ones, are always trafficked and at least 30% is caused by deliveries. It may seem strange, but our bikes are actually quicker than motor vehicles. They have no parking problems and can even use bike lanes."
