"The price of sweet potatoes in Guangxi showed many fluctuations this year after excessive rainfall in the first half of this year greatly reduced production volumes. The decline in production volume is estimated at around 20%." This is according to Mr. Pan Mingfu of Guangxi Fuhe Potato Industry Co., Ltd.

"Prices shot up as the overall production volume declined. The price rise was particularly strong in the first half of this year. The price of some varieties increased by as much as 100% in comparison with the same period last year. The overall price gradually began to come down in the second half of this year and is now stabilizing. Production areas also suffered from drought, but the impact is limited. The price of sweet potatoes is now at the same level as this time last year."
'Watermelon Red' varieties
"We have a farm in Guangxi that covers an area of 100 hectares. This farm produces 'Watermelon Red' sweet potatoes. We also have a farm that covers an area of 200 hectares where we grow fragrant sweet potatoes. The supply period of Watermelon Red sweet potatoes begins every year in July and continues until April in the subsequent year. The fragrant sweet potatoes can be supplied all year round. Market feedback shows that Chinese consumers prefer the fragrant sweet potato variety over the Watermelon Red. This is mainly because the growth period of fragrant sweet potatoes is shorter, around 100 days, which makes this variety softer and sweeter."
"We sell our sweet potatoes through traditional retail channels as well as e-commerce platforms. Our sweet potatoes are mainly sold in the wholesale markets and supermarkets of first- and second-tier cities in China as well as Hong Kong and Macao. We also hope to set up sweet potato exports when the time is ripe. We would like to bring the delicious flavor of our sweet potatoes to customers overseas."
