Brazil saves Dutch onion export sector in first 7 weeks

In week 33, Dutch onion export volumes totalled 21,712 tons. These are the numbers reported in the latest export figures published. Between weeks 27 and 33, the Netherlands exported 102,996 tons of onions. That is less than 2018's 124,405 tons and the 132,000 tons exported in 2017.

Exports to Brazil, in particular, catch the eye. In these seven weeks, this came to 15,511 tons. Last year, in these same weeks, no onions at all made their way to Brazil from the Netherlands.

Exports to the Ivory Coast totalled 11,231 tons. This amount is, however, only half the volume exported to that country in the same period last year. With 11,828 tons, Great Britain also took fewer Dutch onions. This is compared to the 16,574 tons they bought last year.
