IKO Convention to be held in Turin

The 38th Conference of the International Kiwifruit Organization (IKO) will take place between 8th and 11th September in Turin. CSO Italy is the organizer of the event which traditionally opens the productive season in the northern hemisphere.

38 delegates from the leading kiwifruit producer countries will attend - i.e. New Zealand, Italy, Chile, California, France, Greece, Spain and Portugal. The Italian delegation will include Paolo Bruni, Elisa Macchi and Tomas Bosi (President, Director and Production Expert at CSO Italy), Monica Guizzardi (Technical Manager for Apo Conerpo), Gabriele Ferri (General Manager at Naturitalia), Cristian Moretti and Ugo Palara (General Director and Technical Director at Agrintesa), Giovanni Casiraghi (Procurement Manager at Spreafico), Mauro Laghi (General Director at Alegra) and Alessandro Pernigo (Sales Manager for Frutta C2). Everything will be coordinated by Jingold President Patrizio Neri.

The event will discuss the 2018/19 campaign, the new season in the northern hemisphere, the trends in New Zealand and Chile, phytosanitary problems and promotional activities.

Italy is the host
Italy is the main kiwifruit producer in Europe and, excluding China, also in the northern hemisphere.

Despite the low harvested volumes of the past few years (around 400 thousand tons) and despite the potential of around 600 thousand tons, Italy has proved itself to be an interesting dynamic protagonist with exports exceeding 300 thousand tons and imports of around 50 thousand tons during the counterseason (mainly from New Zealand and Chile).

The International Kiwifruit Organization
IKO is an association made up of representatives from the main kiwifruit producer and exporter countries. Its objectives include the development of kiwifruit cultivation through the exchange of information, confrontation and shared topics. IKO gathers twice a year: in early September and in February at Fruit Logistica.
