Sustainably grown asparagus at start of Dutch supermarket Jumbo’s asparagus season

Spring has started, and that means it’s time for asparagus: the queen of the vegetables and one of the last proper Dutch seasonal vegetables. Easter is the ideal time to eat asparagus. Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo recently opened their asparagus season. They’re paying a lot of attention to asparagus with seasonal promotions, information regarding origins, tips for using them and lots of recipes.

Modern cuisine
Every year, lovers of asparagus look forward to traditional recipes such as asparagus with eggs and ham and asparagus soup. But asparagus has also become part of modern cuisines. Asparagus can be prepared in many different ways, but they can also be eaten during different parts of the day. Think of a delicious frittata, a spring salad or a sandwich during lunch, for example.

Sustainably grown
Jumbo’s asparagus is certified ‘On the way to PlanetProof’ this year. On the way to PlanetProof is an independent quality mark for dairy, fruit and vegetables, eggs, flowers, plants, trees and bulbs. It proves you’re buying a product that was produced in a more sustainable manner, and is therefore better for nature, the environment and animals.
