Marketing of Chilean cherries successful in China

Export of Chilean cherries down in 2018-2019, prices increased

El Mercurio reported on March 11th that the export volume of Chilean cherries declined by 3% in the harvest season of 2018-2019. The price increased by 10% in the same period. The export volume declined because the production areas suffered from hailstorms during harvest season. However, the product quality is quite good this year, so that 85% of the cherries met the requirements for the international export market, which is higher than the 75% of last season. The export volume therefore did not shrink as much as expected. The main reason for the price increase is the successful marketing of Chilean cherries in China. Chilean cherry exporters spent a combined 5 million USD on cherry marketing.
