Chilean cherries sell well during Chinese Spring Festival

"Miss Fresh sold more than 4 million kg of Chilean cherries in the 2018-2019 Chilean cherry production season by the end of January." This is according to a manager responsible for fruit purchases in Miss Fresh. He further stated that the Chilean cherry production season begins every year in late November and lasts until February in the subsequent year. The majority of cherries sold on Miss Fresh, TMall, and JD e-commerce platforms come from Chile and New Zealand.

Chinese consumer can enjoy fresh cherries throughout the year. When the Chilean cherry production season is over, traders purchase from domestic production areas in Dalian and Shandong between March and May. They then switch to cherries from the USA between June and August.

Cherries from Chile and the northwest of the USA are superior to Chinese cherries when it comes to the selection of product varieties, plantation technology, packaging and preservation of freshness after the harvest, and transport technology. In addition, their plantations offer a superior growing environment, which explains why the product quality of cherries from Chile and the northwest of the USA is better than cherries from China. The manager of Miss Fresh further explained that the price of US cherries is the most stable in the Chinese market. This is mainly because US cherries also have a strong domestic market and do not solely rely on the export market.
