Les Rubis de Lansac: a young dynamic company at Fruit Logistica

The three brothers: Alexandre, Christophe and Maxime

This was the fourth year that Maxime, commercial director at Les Rubis de Lansac, took part in Fruit Logistica.  “We like the atmosphere of the fair and it is always nice to see our clients again.”

Special attention to communication
Located just outside of the Alpilles regional natural park, the farm produces a wide range of salads from November to April, and charentais cantaloupes in the summer. The management of this family structure was taken over by three brothers who have the ambition to actively and continuously improve the company, based on communication. “We work a lot on communication and on promoting and improving our products. The production aspect is important but we also pay special attention to marketing, because nowadays, making good products is not enough. We must make ourselves known and stand out. That’s why we participate in the Fruit Logistica fair for example. Although our booth is quite modest, we want it to present well. Our products are displayed planted in pots rather than on printed posters. We hope that this original touch, for example, will help us stand out.”

A responsible production
As far as production is concerned, Maxime shows a will to adapt to contemporary developments. “It is very important, nowadays, to produce fruits and vegetables with very little pesticide residues. Although we do not practice organic farming, we use almost exclusively organic phytosanitary products to treat our crops. We find them more effective than the conventional ones. A salad is a bit like a human being. Sometimes, homeopathic treatments work better than allopathic treatments, and the individual shows better resistance. The same thing happens here. When we compare residue analyses on an organic melon to our melon, which is conventional, we are at the same level, even though ours is not sold with the biological label. It is like a conventional French product, which is almost organic according to the Spanish standards. France and Spain do not refer to the same specifications, and the consumer is not always aware of this.” The company also plans to convert part of their production to organic farming within the next 3 years.

A company that wants to be close to his clients
The client relations are very important to the three brothers. “We constantly invite clients to come visit the farm. This reassures them and allows them to better understand the way in which we operate. Even consumers are welcome! In terms of orders, we choose to deliver from full trucks to pallets. In our view, there is no such thing as a small client.”

Finally, Maxime is proud to be part of “this new wave of young producers who have the ambition and desire to make their products ‘made in France’ known all over the world.”
