China: Organic cauliflower price increase

The price of organic cauliflower showed an upward trend this week. The main production areas of organic cauliflower currently in the Wanbang International Market are in Fujian and Shandong, with additional supply from local cold storage in Henan. The product quality of organic cauliflower from Fujian is relatively high and the average price is around 3.6 yuan [0.53 USD] per kg. The product quality of organic cauliflower from local cold storage is the lowest. The average price is around 1.8 yuan [0.27 USD] per kg.

Traders explain the price increase as follows: organic cauliflower supply from local cold storage is approaching its end and the supply from Fujian and Shandong has not yet reached peak period. The overall supply volume in the market is not sufficient to meet demand and the price therefore increases.

The overall surface area devoted to organic cauliflower plantation is larger than last year and the growing conditions are better, which means that the overall supply this year will grow in comparison with last year. The price will then fall, but in the meantime the price is expected the increase even further when supply from local cold storage runs out.
